Art First Gallery, Fredericksburg, Virginia, May 2013 - present.
President. Organization, planning and budgeting for a 33-year old 28-member artist's co-op gallery in historic downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia. Also act as press liaison to create all press releases, internal and external print and digital calendar listings and other publicity, advertising and public relations materials necessary to promote monthly openings and the overall gallery.
USA TODAY / USA WEEKEND Magazine, McLean, Virginia, 1995 - December 2014
USA WEEKEND was the second largest circulation magazine in the country. Inserted in more than 800 American newspapers, it reached a circulation of 22.5 million homes and 50 million readers each week. The magazine was closed with the last issue of 2014.
My responsibilities and jobs covered a wide range, including:
Managing Editor, Creative Director and Creative Manager. Oversaw designers, photo editors and copy editors to create national award-winning editorial content on deadline and on budget.
Web Site Designer and Manager. Helped develop some of the earliest sites on America Online and then helped launch a number of our company's initial web sites, blogs, widgets and other interactive initiatives. I created and updated content for the web and mobile devices using a wide variety of content management systems. I also conducted training for other staffers in areas like copyright and search engine optimization.
Senior Assignment Editor, Online and Print. Responsible for the content product's headline and display copywriting, in addition to editing a column for the print magazine and the web site. I also initiated and edited many online-exclusive features.
Print Designer. Designed thousands of article pages for the publication. In addition, I also designed logos, sales-support materials, PowerPoint presentations and much more.
Illustrator and Cartoonist. Contributed dozens of drawings, including cover designs, winning several national awards in the process.
Ancillary Products Manager. Complete responsibility for creating and marketing books, calendars and other ancillary products based on the magazine's content. I handled all the budgeting, printing, fulfillment, distribution and marketing for these products.
Internship Coordinator. Supervised and trained college-level interns in web, print and graphic design.
Browning & Co., Houston, Texas, 1990 - 1995
Art Director for a legal graphics firm. I worked with some of the top attorneys in America to create visual storytelling for multi-million dollar civil trials. My demonstrative evidence helped persuade judges and juries in particularly complicated litigation. I also designed all marketing materials for the company. High-profile cases included the Tylenol poisonings in Chicago, Exxon vs Mobil patent litigation and trademark cases for The Limited.
